Autumn is fast approaching and we are proud to have our new and exciting Workshop list below, full day and half day courses to test both your skills and imagination. We have added several new tutors who bring their fresh ideas and our existing tutors have again been working hard on new and different workshops. Join us for a full day or half day workshop and learn, laugh and above all have fun.

Cost of our workshops is between £25 and £65 all materials are supplied and refreshments provided. Please bring your own lunch for a full day course.
Monday 9th September Crochet Christmas Angel with Irina Grina Create something special for christmas. This is a workshop for those who have already learnt to Crochet and are able to use cotton yarns. Irina will teach you how to make an amazing crochet angel to hang on your tree or as a gift for friends and family. Half day workshop 10am to 1pm £30.00 Tuesday 10th September JACOBEAN EMBROIDERED PAPERWEIGHT with Beppy Berlin a delicate embroidery is featured on each of the four sides of this small triangular paperweight, filled with lentils and finished with a handmade tassel. Jacobean Embroidery is a free form embroidery developed in the 17th century and is one of the earliest forms of surface stitching 10am to 4pm £60
Friday 13th September PADDED NOTICE BOARD with Amanda Brown. A fun and quirky pin/peg board for use in the home, beach hut or shed,it has a pocket for leaflets, photos or notes and keep a pen handy in the cute hanging boat. Basic sewing machine skills required as well as some hand sewing. 10am to 4pm £60
Monday 16th September KNOW YOUR SEWING MACHINE with Lynn Horniblow You will be shown how to maintain your machines, given advice on the various needles and threads. How to use straight, zig zag, stretch and satin stitches for standard and decorative sewing. The use of presser feet for quilting, roll and blind hemming, over edging, zip application, piping and button holes. you will need to bring your sewing machine in full working order together with the accessories and your handbook. Materials will be provided. 10am to 4pm £60
Thursday 19th September FLIP AND SEW” TOTE BAG with Sasha Fancy. A great class for all levels of sewing. Learn how to work with Style-Vil , if you’ve never used it before, see what a versatile product this is, your bag, when finished, stands up by itself and after being folded, bounces back into shape. Its all in one technique which makes it quick and easy. 10am to 4pm £60
Friday 20th September HAND EMBROIDERY; FELT NEEDLEBOOK with Annette Bolton Easy felt needlebook highly decorated and embellished with hand stitches, beads, ribbon, lace etc. These small needlebooks will prove to be very practical addition to your sewing equipment and also make lovely presents. All materials and equipment provided. 10am to 4pm £60
Saturday 21st September TRIANGULAR GARTER STITCH SCARF with Mary Holbrook This snuggly scarf is so easy to make it has a picot edge and drapes beautifully . You will be starting to knit the scarf using a circular needle during the workshop, and taking it home on the needles to finish and cast off. Students need to be able to cast on and off and be familiar with garter stitch. The cost of the workshop includes a pattern, DK knitting yarn and circular needles 10am to 12.30pm £30
Monday 23rd September CROCHET CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS- SNOWFLAKE AND BELL with Irina Grina Come and join our crochet workshop and create something special for christmas. This is a workshop for those that have already learnt to crochet and are able to use a cotton yarn. On this half day workshop Irina will teach you how to crochet both the little snowflake and bell to hang on your christmas tree. Materials and equipment provided. 10am to 1pm £30
Tuesday 24th September UNDERSTANDING YOUR OVERLOCKER with Lynn Horniblow Learn how versatile your overlocker can be. Lynn will begin with the basics, threading and tension adjusting, moving onto decorative finishes and time saving techniques. This workshop is aimed at 4 thread overlockers with adjustable tension dials. You will need to bring your own overlocker in full working order and any accessories including your handbook. All other materials and equipment will be provided. 10am to 4pm £65
Friday 27th September MACHINE QUILTING with Mary Bird. Machine quilting can be as subtle or as bold as you choose to make it. You will learn skills that will enable you to give depth to your patchwork and applique or to create beautiful heirloom pieces. We begin with quilting in the ditch , outline quilting and other useful patterns and many other techniques. At the end of this workshop you will take home a portfolio of samples that will become and invaluable reference file. You will need to bring your sewing machine in full working order and your free embroidery foot (darning) and a walking foot. All other equipment will be supplied. 10am to 4pm £60Monday 30th September PATCHWORK TECHNIQUES- NEEDLE ROLL with Julie Farrow (the newest member of tutors) This needle roll is a quick easy project that uses “strip piecing” method for speed and accuracy it will keep all your needle packets in one place and safe in the dividing pockets. Once finished this sweet little project can be further embellished. Basic sewing machine skills required and all materials and equipment will be provided. 10am to 4pm £60
Friday 4th October FABRIC LANDSCAPES with Mary Bird. Make a small scale applique landscape picture. Create mountains, lakes and fields by using an easy free form cutting technique. Add hedgerows, trees and other details, then decide whether to stitch the fabrics together by hand or to use invisible machine applique’. For the final touch, embroider grasses and flowers in the foreground. Materials and equipment will be provided 10am to 4pm £60
Saturday 5th October KNITTED FLOWER SCARF with Mary Holbrook. This charming neck warmer is knitted in garter stitch and is quick and easy to make, it is also versatile as it would make a great head warmer/scarf. An attractive addition to your winter wardrobe and would make lovely gifts. Student need to be able to cast on and off and be familiar with garter stitch. 4mm knitting needle and yarn included in the cost of the workshop. 10am to 12.30pm £30
Monday 7th October BEGINNERS MACHINE PATCHWORK with Lynn Horniblow . The key to successful patchwork is cutting your fabric accurately and being consistent with seam allowances. Learn how to use a rotary cutter. piecing and assembling your patchwork. You will be making up sample blocks using a ‘nine patch’ design called ‘Friendship Star’ . Basic sewing machine skills required. Materials and equipment will be provided. 10am to 4pm £60
Tuesday 8th October INTRODUCTION TO FREE MACHINE EMBROIDERY with Jenni Cadman. Discover how to use your sewing machine as a drawing tool and widen your horizons in fabric decoration. This technique lends itself to many applications- quilts, embroidered pictures and cards, clothing, accessories and soft furnishing. Basic sewing machine skills are required together with a working knowledge of your machine. Please bring your sewing machine in working order with your handbook and a free machine embroidery foot. All other materials and equipment will be provided.10am to 4pm £60
Friday 11th October THE BAG ORGANISER with Sylvi Sharp A very useful pouch with assorted pockets to keep those everyday items in one place. Its easy to transfer all those necessities from one bag to another, with everything staying in the same place which makes them easy to find. Or simply use it to keep sets of items together, ready at a minutes notice. eg all those bits in pieces for a trip to the beach or park- sun screen, insect spray, tissues, wet wipe, plasters etc etc, basic sewing skills required. Saturday 19th October EASY CROCHET POM POM HAT with Mary Holbrook This hat is a perfect project for beginners; its quick and easy to make using chunky yarn giving a ribbed effect, that will keep you warm, whilst also being fashionable. Mary will show you how to use a Pom Pom Maker, to create that finishing touch to your hat. Skill level- Double crochet. Materials and equipment will be provided 10am to 12.30pm fee £30
Monday 21st October SEWING JERSEY ON YOUR SEWING MACHINE with Lynn Horniblow Stretch fabrics can be a little tricky first time around. During this workshop you will learn how to choose the correct pattern and size, lay and cut out the pattern. Discover how to set the sewing machine for stitching, the correct foot, needles and stitches use. Finally, finishing and pressing, you will be able to wear you stylish top home after the workshop. Materials and equipment will be provided. Basic sewing machine skills are required. 10am to 4pm £60
Tuesday 22nd October HAND EMBROIDERY; STUMPWORK INITIAL with Annette Bolton. Choose your own initial to hand embroider, with raised Stumpwork Flowers and the addition of Metallic threads to produce a stunning piece of embroidery. Thursday 24th October PATCHWORK ; LILY PAD TABLE RUNNER with Julie Farrow. This is a small table runner based on the traditional Cathedral Window quilting block. It uses the updated easy method and is entirely hand sewn. Should hand sewing not be your favourite method it can be completed by machine, provided your machine has a zig zag function, it can also be enlarged be adding more blocks. 10am to 4pm £60
Friday 25th October SASHIKO COIN PURSE with Mary Bird. Practice the Japanese quilting technique of Sashiko and hand stitch a traditional design. Turn the decorated fabric into a small lined purse with a stitched on metal frame. Materials and equipment provided. 10am to 4pm £60
Tuesday 29th October CHRISTMAS BEADED BAUBLES with Pat Taylor . There are many beautiful christmas baubles available nowadays, but here is an opportunity for you to make one of your own, for your personal collection or for someone special. From previous experience we have learnt that they can become family heirlooms. Pat has designed this beautiful beaded decoration which can be completed on the workshop, and has put a kit together containing everything needed, the kit contains seed, bugle and crystal faceted beads at a nominal fee of £2 which is payable directly to Pat. You can choose from red/gold or green/silver. 10am to 4pm £60
Thursday 31st October PATCHWORK TECHNIQUES- AUTUMNAL CUTLERY DINNER MATS with Sasha Fancy. Such a fun project; When you have completed your Maple Leaf Blocks we add a cutlery pocket and you have your own very handy dinner/place mats. Once you know how to achieve the block you can go on to design your easy table runner to match. If you have never worked with triangles before, this is a great introduction into understanding how they work. Basic sewing machine skills needed. Friday 8th November FOLDED PATCH WORK TABLE MAT with Mary Bird Using the traditional technique of Somerset Patchwork, create a textured table mat by folding and refolding small rectangles of fabric to form a complex mosaic design. Monday 11th November PATCHWORK ORIGAMI- WINDMILL BAG With Lynn Horniblow. This square bag with a surprising amount of space inside is constructed from simple patching, piecing and quilting. The block design is known as windmills or pin wheels. The sewing machine is used throughout the construction, using different feet, attachments and stitches for the quilting. Monday 18th November TEDDY BEARS FOR GROWN UP’S! With Lynn Horniblow. The traditional teddy bear has become a much sought after collectable. On this workshop Lynn will show you how to make your own fully jointed collectable bear, complete with safety eyes and an embroidered nose. Learning to use long pile fur fabric and correct moulding and stuffing techniques. (these bears are not suitable for young children) Basic sewing machine skills are required. Tuesday 19th November CHRISTMAS BAUBLE CUSHION with Amanda Brown Create a fun and quirky cushion that will liven up your sofa or chair this christmas, whilst honing your machine applique’ skills. Friday 29th November PATCHWORK; THE ‘BOHO’ BAG with Sylvi Sharp. A casual shoulder style bag for everyday use. Lets make it unique to you. You will create the outer fabric of the bag, designing the layout as you sew, making it “one of a kind ” then the construction of the bag can begin, by the end of the day you should have your own unique shoulder bag to take home.
